HPAI H5: Exports Banned From 6 Russian Regions

#12,467

While bird flu reports continue to dwindle across western Europe, the same cannot be said for Russia, where a number of regions are still battling HPAI H5 outbreaks.
Yesterday, in Russia's Bird Flu Reports Continue, we looked at a new confirmed outbreak in Mari El region, along with confirmed reports of bird flu contaminated meat entering the food chain in Vladivostok, and similar media reports from Udmurtia.
Today, Rosselkhoznadzor confirms those media reports, with the following announcement:

On the outbreak of avian influenza in the Kirov region and the Udmurt Republic

The Rosselkhoznadzor Office for the Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea informs about the detection of products infected with the avian influenza virus in the Kirov Region and the Udmurt Republic.

As a result of studies of poultry products produced by Evrodon LLC conducted at the Kirovsky Krai Regional Veterinary Laboratory and the Udmurt Veterinary Diagnostic Center, the genetic material of the avian influenza A virus was identified and the subtype H5 was identified. The results are confirmed by FGBU "VNIIZH".

All products are taken for inspection by the inspectors of the Rosselkhoznadzor and after the laboratory research complex it will be decided to use it further, in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation.

In addition, the Office draws the attention of citizens and legal entities involved in the maintenance of animals and poultry to the need to comply with the rules aimed at preventing the introduction and spread of diseases common to humans and animals and calls for reporting to the state veterinary authorities on the appearance of new animals from neighbors, on old Livestock farms, as well as in other places where their maintenance and breeding is possible.null

This has become an increasingly common story over the past few weeks in Russia, with tons of contaminated meat having been shipped to a number of regions.

While the risk of human infection from these products is considered very low, there are serious concerns that these shipments could help spread the virus to other poultry producers.

As a result, earlier this week the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance issued a ban on the export of poultry products from 6 regions currently battling the virus.

In Russia imposed a ban on exports of poultry from six regions

On May 15 in Russia imposed a ban on exports of poultry from six regions. The corresponding decision was made by Rosselkhoznadzor to prevent the spread of bird flu, as it became known from the department of materials.
It states that the export ban has affected Russian regions such as the Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Kalmykia, Chechnya and Moscow, Astrakhan and Rostov regions.

In accordance with the decision of the Rosselkhoznadzor, of these subjects of the Federation can not export live birds, hatching eggs and poultry products that have not undergone heat treatment.

Noteworthy is the fact that the supply of these regions in third countries is possible on the condition that the product has been produced in other regions, favored by the situation with bird flu . In addition, the route of production should not be run through these areas of risk.

These six regions are currently the most heavily hit. We've see reports from other regions (see Rosselhoznador Confirm An H5 Bird Flu Outbreak In Tartarstan) which do not appear to be part of this order.
